National University to apply Public Service Act norms: Senate Body

The National University (NU) will follow the Public Service Act- 2018 regarding the voluntary retirement and termination of service of its employees. According to sections 44 and 45 of the Public Service Act 2018, a public servant can seek voluntary retirement on completion of his/her 25 years of service (as per Section 44 of the Act) and on the other hand, as per the Section 45, the government can terminate, on the completion of the same tenure, any government official without any show cause for the sake of the government’s or public interest.  From now on, the enforcement of the Act will also be applicable to the employees of the National University – the biggest university of Bangladesh. The decision came at the Special Senate Meeting today. Speaking as the Chairman of the Senate Body, the Vice-chancellor of National University Professor Dr. ASM Amanullah has said, steps are being made to reform the existing curriculum in line with 4th revolution to enable the students to meet the need of the time. On the occasion, the NU Vice-chancellor categorically pointed out the reform measures that have been taken since his joining the office. He said, we have so far made a number of reform works that include promotion, transfer of teachers and stuff, reinstating those lost their jobs during regime of last fascist government, forming the Truth Finding Committee to prob into allegations of corruption, monitoring affiliated colleges, determining key point indicator – KPI for college monitoring, establishing Cyber Security and Forensic Institute, developing and evaluating curriculum and easing session jams.

69 senate members as well as guests invited from the syndicate, including the Senior Secretary of the Public Administration Ministry, the Senior Secretary and Additional Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Department, Divisional Commissioners, Chairpersons of various education boards, academicians and principals of various colleges participated in the senate session. Additionally, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor 1, Prof. Md. Lutfor Rahaman, Pro-Vice-Chancellor 2, Professor Dr. Md. Nurul Islam, Treasurer Professor Dr. A T M Zafrul Azam, and the Senate Secretary and University Registrar, Molla Mahfuz Al-Hossain, were present at the senate session. At the beginning of the senate session, the national anthem was played. Subsequently, the Senate Chairman, Professor Dr. ASM Amanullah, offered condolences to the fearless martyrs of the anti-discrimination movement, distinguished individuals of the country, and teachers, officers, and employees of the university who passed away. A moment of silence was observed in their memory. The Senate Chairman and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. ASM Amanullah, thanked everyone present and declared the end of the senate session.”
